Marble Runs in the Classroom

We brought marble mazes into the classroom after our C.A.D session last friday.
Here is a picture of Toran with his creation.
The challenge was to "design a marble run that will make your marble move the slowest."

Community Activity Day

During our last round of C.A.D, students in The Class designed, built and then tested marble runs. We joined Mrs. Deschant and many other students from Kindergarten to grade 6.
Here are a few photos of our budding architects:

Superflexible Thinking

Yesterday students dissected a jello brain to see what type of thinking goes on inside a SUPERFLEXIBLE brain.

Students compared a "Rock Brain" (a brain mould filled with frozen water) to a "Superflex Brain" (a brain mould filled with jello). We used tweezers to pull out messages that helped us understand the type of thinking that does on inside a Superflex Brain.

Students discussed what type of thinking would occur in each of the brains. They were quick to identify that when Rock Brain invades your thinking you are using your ME Brain. Using your ME brain involves thinking only about yourself. When you are using Superflex strategies to defeat Rock Brain, you are using your WE brain. When you use your WE brain you are considerate of the thoughts, feelings, needs and wants of both yourself and others (Social Smarts!)

Valentine's Day Festivities

Happy Friday Parents!

With Valentine’s Day being next week, I think it would be nice for our class to have a small celebration on the afternoon of Wednesday February 13th.

Students are invited to bring Valentine’s Day cards for their classmates.
If your child chooses to participate in passing out valentines, it is expected that they have a card for everyone in the class. To assist you in this, I have listed the first names of the students in our class below.
Please do not send candy, chocolate or baked goods; instead healthy snacks will be provided for the students to enjoy

Students Names:
Ireh
Toran
Chael
Ian
Dawson
Ethan
Peyton
Sawyer

Thank you so much for your help with this!
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Cougar’s Arcade

Hello Cambrian Heights School Community,

The grade five and six students (in mainstream programming) are excited to invite you to share in our learning at our upcoming “Cougar’s Arcade”. Inspired by the Video about Caine’s Arcade we have created our own arcade.

When is it happening?
On Wednesday Feb 6th 2019, you are invited to come into school and try out Cougar’s Arcade.

Our school community is invited to enjoy our arcade during the following four timeslots:
10:15 – 11:00 AM Kindergarten
11:00 – 11:45 Grade 3/4
12:45 - 1:30 – PM Kindergarten
1:30 – 2:15 Grade 1/2

Families are invited to attend any of the four timeslots. Each time slot will include:
• A video presentation to explain all of the hard work and learning that has occurred
• An opportunity to play the games and win tickets
• A chance to trade in tickets for prizes

All students that attend Cambrian Heights School will be able play for free however there will be an opportunity to donate money to Caine’s Imagination Foundation http://imagination.org. The mission of Caine’s Imagination Foundation is to find, foster, and fund creativity in children around the world to raise a generation of innovators and problem solvers, who have the tools they need to build the world they imagine.

All Arcade goers visiting the school will have an opportunity to buy different play passes for either $1, $2 or $5. We will donate all of the money raised to the Imagination Foundation.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday!
